The photographic process allows our memories, which would normally reside in the realm of the insubstantial, to become physically tangible objects. When capturing an image on film, the resulting photograph is produced through a chemical process that lends itself to implicit objectivity, thus permitting the photograph to exist as the relic of a moment that has past. In a similar manner, memories themselves are the remaining traces of an experience. When an experience is retained within the mind, everything that is within perceptual range is recorded in detail. In both mediums, the mind and the photograph, an irreducible element exists between the subject and its representation.
In my artwork, I create images that represent these irreducible elements of experience. By breaking these elements down to their fundamental basics, and then recreating them, the viewer not only approaches the image as an �objective� relic, but also with their memories brought to the forefront as a major interpretative tool. In these artworks, I incorporate details both recognizable and unrecognizable, creating images that seem familiar, while being wholly original. Through this visual �tip of the tongue,� I create images that seem strangely akin to that which is already familiar.
