The most important thing I seek to capture is the essence of light. I often use metallic paint and leaf, which has the property of reflecting even the smallest amount of ambient light. It is important to me to keep my colors clear and vibrant, like a stained glass window in a cathedral. Pre-Raphaelite painters such as Burne-Jones and Rosetti used pure pigments over a white background in order to capture the pigment's inherent luminosity.
I love to use different materials and textures, and even the most banal of objects will often trigger something in the subconscious that will serve to "wake us up." In each work I try to create a small world that the viewer can journey into and use as a tool to make new discoveries about the self.
