Jan Olive is a professional artist from Somerset, who began painting in 1996. She is a prolific painter whose work is displayed in collections throughout Europe as well as in the USA and Australia.
Almost entirely self-taught, Jan continues to develop her skills through steady practice and experimentation with different materials and colour expressionism. Her work endeavors to capture the conflict which she feels is essential for creative expression: structure v chaos; reality v imagination; good v evil, in a range of formats from landscape and figurative work to still life and abstracts. Colour, movement, textural surfaces, the use of reflective materials and composition are combined in a way that depicts the way she feels inside. Explanatory titles often serve as a guide.In her life, as well as in her art, Jan has never been one to conform to a defined style. Consequently, the paintings she creates are a diverse assortment, with inspirations coming from her life experiences and influenced by her unique view of the world.
