Geraldine (Geri) Roggiero believes that her life as an artist is a wonderful unfolding journey of her innate and unlimited potential where making a difference in the world and enriching the lives of others is the fuel for her creativity. She believes that her unique mission in life is expressed and made manifest through her artwork. Her wildlife drawings are the means by which Geraldine aspires to assist others in recognizing those qualities that shall unite and empower them to respect and honour ALL living things. As mankind becomes aware of that connection and delicate balance it could be a lot easier to conserve all species and their habitats and ultimately bring people together for the common good of all.
HOW I WORK: Before I start a piece, and whenever it is possible, I like to “tune into” the animal by visiting the local zoo and study the way they move and behave. Even when I look through my reference material I try to imagine how they would be feeling and interacting in their environment so that when I create my work I can express the totality of that animal.
For the technique I draw a rough outline in lead pencil and then paint a light wash in watercolour. Next, I produce the basic colouring in coloured pencil and work in layers to create the light and depth. For the detail I finish in oil- pastel, watercolour or gouache.
