After trying my hand at other techniques Batik sort of fell into my lap and I was so pleased with the results I haven’t stopped yet.
Pen and ink, and pencil drawings gave me a way to express myself for a few years, but I was trying to find my way into color.
A very small and inexpensive book, combined with a desire to experiment, led to the trial and error experiences I had to go through in order to reach a ‘satisfactory’ balance between ‘inspiration’ and results.
Patience, the practice in the handling of tools, finding the right materials and tools (this was somewhat difficult and time consuming, probably due to the fact that Batik is not a popular form of art in México), are all key ingredients.
‘My’ process begins with an idea or an image, or both, then, the first traces begin to take shape on the canvas. Most times I get ‘stuck’ at some point and can’t do anything for days, except look at what I’ve done so far, suddenly my mind seems to wake up and I pick up where I left off.
The Batik begins to grow and change, with a life of its own, until the moment when I look at the finished product.
