Member since the very beginning
Having spent much of the last 20 years sidestepping the boundaries of photographic convention, my work attempts to explore the phenomenon of synchronicity. Whilst technical ability and an understanding of physics and chemistry can help us to create our imagery, laws and rules should not become barriers to further understanding. Knowledge may give us greater control, but unless we also discover how to let go we may remain blinded to the magical nature of synchronicity.
Photography is in the midst of a crisis, having increasingly become a victim of its own popularity and accessibility. Bombarded with thousands of images every day, from papers, magazines, brochures and billboards, many people have long since reached saturation and now only skim the surface of this vast sea of visual information. As a commercial photographer one often has to pander to the whims of instant gratification, baiting the hooks of consumerism with tempting visual titbits. As an artist all such agendas can be put aside in the hope that purer motives add depth and meaning to the quest for self-expression.
