My Sample Artwork
Artist Statement:
For me, drawing in pencil captures a certain dramatic effect - much
like the classic black and white movies. My goal with my drawings is to
capture a photo or ultra-realistic quality. My drawings usually take me
anywhere from 20 - 200 hours depending on the amount of detail I want
to add. I often have been asked why I draw like this? Why don't I just
take a photograph and call it a day? Well, my answer is simple - a
photograph can't feel. A photograph cannot penetrate a viewers soul
like a drawing can. Not to take away anything from photographers,
believe me photographs are very important to me - and there are some
awesome photographers in the world. But I feel like I learn a little
more about the person I'm drawing when I'm spending hours upon hours
drawing their faces. In essence, I also learn a little more about
myself with each drawing. I am a lifelong student of art. I hope to be
able to continue drawing for as long as I'm alive. When I draw, that's
what I feel ALIVE! I am inspired not only by other artists but from
life itself. I am inspired textures, smells, sounds, all my senses seem
to come alive when I draw. I guess it's because I really become in tune
with my subject.
My portraits are like my children. I created them and I'm proud of
them. I hope to change the way people "see" each other. Everyone is
special in their own special way. It's those little unique nuances that
everyone has is what I hope to capture in my portraits. It's why I
became a portrait artist. Every person is beautiful and I hope to bring
out that beauty in each portrait I draw. I hope to bring out the
person's soul. Friends have given me the moniker "The Drawer of Life"
because I have the ability to bring a drawing to life. GOD has given me
a gift and it's one that I hope to use to bring people closer together.
It's one I hope to bring everyone's inner beauty out. It's one that I
hope to make us all learn something about ourselves.
