Natalie Burns's Online Portfolio

What I am trying to achieve by painting is purely to satisfy the desire to express myself. Painting makes me feel excited, energized, and it these feelings I want to establish in my paintings. Painting in an abstract style gives me the freedom to paint without the reference of objects, but through the use of colour, movement and a feeling that the paint should be applied to the canvas in a way that feels right to me. I prefer to work with my canvas flat on the ground, so that by being able to work from all sides of the canvas I have the freedom of movement I need, also this allows the patterns to emerge in my work easier. I work solely with acrylics which, because of the fast drying time helps me to be more spontaneous and at the same time helps me to interpret a sense of energy and movement. I am a self taught artist, every new painting is a lesson for me which adds to the excitement of starting a new piece and also gives me more freedom to express myself in my own way which I hope adds a more unique, original quality to my work.
