ARTIST'S APPROACH
Born near the Ural Mountains of Russia, Natalia Shapira’s talent as a sculptor has taken her artistic career to an international level. Natalia first formal artistic training at the Sverdlovsk College of Arts (1983-1987) qualified her as a teacher of sculpture and drawing. In 1989 Natalia was accepted to Russia Krasnoyarsk University to be classically trained in sculptural art (1989-1994). Participating in several major exhibits, even before the end of her artistic training, Natalia’s successful career as an independent artist has already begun.
Cultured in the classic approaches to sculpting, Natalia’s work has achieved universal appeal. In response to her wide acceptance, Natalia took her artistic career to Tel-Aviv, Israel (1996-1999). Working within artistic communities in Israel, Natalia was active in restoration, drawing, and of course, sculpting.
Arriving in Canada in 1999, Natalia’s talent was immediately celebrated. Shortly after her arrival, Natalia attained a close relationship with several Canadian galleries where her sculpted works are now on permanent display. With her ever-increasing success Natalia’s original sculptures have earned their place in both international art exhibitions and private collections across North America.
Mastery of form and commitment to her own style is what defines Natalia Shapira’s work. Though every proportion and gesture is considered with precision, there is a true freedom about the style in which she applies to her sculpted nudes. Their full and fantastic forms reflect the carefree feeling about them. Possessing a dream-like quality, they are truly embodiments of the artist’s imagination. Working on a small scale in natural materials lends a sense of intimacy to her sculptures. These robust figures also possess a confidence, which spurs a sense of admiration in the viewer; an admiration that marks Natalia Shapira’s sculptures as undeniably attractive.
In 2004 was admitted to Society of Canadian Artists .
Natalia Shapira currently lives and works in Toronto.

“Really beautiful stuff. The form is amazingly well executed. The textures are subtle and wonderful. The only thing that I see that keeps these from being absolute masterworks is the color f the earthenware. That could just be because of the photos, but a subtle amount of pigment in the clay would be helpful in seeing the textures. Bravo!”

“...love the twist with the heels”

“Your work is very good Natalia, I am impressed by your understanding of, and design ability within, the parrametres of your medium. I love the relaxed humour and candor of this piece Eos particularly. I don't mean to sound patronizing, but complimentary. Good luck in your work...”
Mitchell Foley

“...again with the heels! ...brilliant”

“I like your work and the way the subject matter of the woman was developed in these stuffs. Also, I think you have good control of the techniques and the surface of the material used.”
Hector Escalante-Rivera
“The Bas Relief that you do is very interesting and lovely, but still my favorite is the life that you bring to your 3-D sculptures. But honestly I would own either!”
Keri Mills
“A lot of 'stylised' figure work you see seems a little arbitrary, or self congratulatory. What you achieve is far more pertinent to the reality of the female form ...it's clear you understand what you're doing!”
