Artist’s Statement
My paintings involve bright, colorful, often reflective objects placed against dark, ambiguous backgrounds with a strong light source. I feel these paintings defy classification although they have been described as “quasi-surreal†and “dream-like†(Artis Spectrum) and a “glossy POP style executed with wit and charm†(Artspeak). The compositions typically use objects of innocence and beauty such as marbles, toys and gumballs, placed in a way to explore spatial relations and motion. The paintings tend to evoke strong emotions in the observers based on their previous experiences, and lead to a wide range of interpretations.
