We CAN make a difference

On March 29th, 2008 at 8pm local time Earth Hour will commence ALL AROUND THE WORLD.

Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a POWERFUL MESSAGE about the need for action on global warming.

Be part of making Earth Hour 2008 a huge, global success by telling your friends and family. Remember, every single light makes a statement and makes a difference.

Last year, on 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney (Australia) businesses turned off their lights for one hour – Earth Hour. This massive collective effort reduced Sydney’s energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for one hour.

Georgia...we all are hypocrites...none of us went to the forest saying no to the new inventions, but for me thats not the point! of course we cant bring back time nd stop using the machines, cars, planes nd all which is called to be so so wrong .. im living in Ireland..my parents are in Bulgaria...i have relatives in russia..in sibir..shall i take a horse to go there??it ll truly take me life time for a trip like that Smile) however..i believe its possible that we can make some kind of symbiosis with mother nature..simply we should try to respect her more ! we will never know the whole truth from those who know more about global warming ..nobody tells u the truth.

Ekaterina, it is true. We do need to find a balance. and since we do not know the truth it behooves us to study the subject if we truly care about it. We should learn about Global Dynamics, weather patterns, biology, evolution. We should listen the the brightest scientists who are not on a big government payroll. We should do all the common sense stuff that we know is the right thing to do.

You are correct. Do not trust scientists who are on a corporations or governments payroll. You have to trust the independent ones. The ones with all the money will call these guys crazy. Some probably are but others are probably right on the money smart! So how do we know which is which?

The best way, if you truly care, is to learn about science as much s possible. to really pay attention to the trends and the money. Only accept peer reviewed science and do not listen to any thing else. Peer reviewed science come under great scrutiny and is the best source for lay-people like us to find the truth without accumulating a dozen degrees.
Then make your choices. Don't do it out of faith. Science has shown that faith does not work. Don't do it out of some knee jerk reaction. that is dangerous. Take your time. Look at the evidence. try to exclude those on the payroll of big business and big politics. Then you might find something resembling the truth.
We all want to live in a world where the people in power care. Unfortunately, if we are not constantly vigilant, they will care only for their own pocket books and families. It is up to us to make them care.
So, I agree with you. I want to see meaningful change. That can only happen if we the people of the planet earth care enough to educate ourselves as to what is really going on. Otherwise all the do this and do that is so much mental masturbation.

It was once said in a popular science fiction novel, that the human race will go out with a whimper instead of a bang. I truly believe this.

Then I realised , very subtle, very clever and to the point.Well spotted
