Was going to wait for a few to be uploaded but I guess a special page would encourage people to participate.

I looked at the upload page, and all it said was I did not have enough credits to upload a file (all seven images in the portfolio are filled).

No link to uploading a wallpaper file seen.

I too, am befuddled. All I saw on the upload page was a link to a conversion chart.

In Harry's portfolio, he has a wallpaper file that is available for downloading. It can be done, but...

If you can't upload an image (your portfolio is currently full), then you can't upload a Wallpaper file either, even though they don't cost against your portfolio count.

I deleted a file (as I wanted to replace it) and presto... I could upload wallpaper. I have not yet uploaded any wallpapers as I don't have access to the first generation images on this computer (to create a file of one of the required sizes.)

I know that I will probably garner some chuckles with this question, but why are wallpapers so prized amongst the computerati? I see them offered up for contests and giveaways all the time. They're basically just a pic, from my understanding. I don't use them myself, as they make my desktop hard to read. So what's the deal?

They are just a pic. For me a good background picture should be somewhat quiet and not have much white so as not to compete with the icons on the desktop.

I change mine every few weeks or so when the mood hits. Generally most of the screen is covered up with applications, so I only see a little of the 'wallpaper' at a time. (It's silly name for a background picture for the 'desktop' screen - did Microsoft name it?)
