Talk about anything that pops into your mind in here, over a nice
cold beverage(or hot, if you prefer). Sports(American and
everyone else, lol), work or play. Anything but art. And keep it
civil, folks, or Marcus, that 300 lb. gent standing by the door
will have to ask you to leave. Have fun.

Its time to set the charcoal alight and get the steak out, put the wine in the fridge...catch you later after I have eaten and had few glasses of the old grape juice.

Yeah I'm getting hungry too.
Potnoodle I reckon - programmers

classic "Bombay Badboy"
Try adding a bit of extra chilli powder and soy sauce!

I'm going to hope and pray you all
are talking about food!
At least nobody is
having a Donner kebab.
The appetizing names. Another reason the English are not known for their cuisine!

Price of meat? People still buy
meat? Gosh, that reminds me to
collect the bugs and rodents for
dinner.

yes...u would think that the sheep
or cow is becoming a rare species
but the amount of energy costs to
get the meat to the supermarket has
risen so much its no wonder that
bovine costs $6-7 aud for a small
serve of serlion I think ill have
to eat organic meat made from soya
products...

Yea, they're pulling the same crap
on us over here. I cringe when I go
to buy groceries. Hamburger is
selling for what steak was going
for, a year ago. Forget veggies and
fruit. We grow it here, and it
costs us more than the rest of the
country. 5-6 oranges for $5 and
everybody's got an orange tree
somewhere near them. It's just
crazy now.

Very funny Joseph as
usual
I dont think any of the NEW generation are good cooks in any country, with all this pre-cooked pre-prepared food and meals ready to just pop in microwave..
All the takeaways on every corner, people are too busy; they dont even make basic things like coffee or sandwiches anymore.
All wrapped in plastic which adds to the rubbish mountain

At this juncture Id like to point
out my mother and father were cook
and chef ( females not allowed to
be chef back then)
They taught me the ART of cooking and I passed on this very ancient art on to my daughter.... needless to say she is the only one of her peer group who can cook....hence she is probably in the takeaway now getting hers and her managers breakfast.
What are we like?...

I think the 'fast food' trend is
just indicative of a cultural shift
from workmanship to ease of
consumption. There will always be a
niche market for high quality
workmanship, but the general
populace don't have the funds (or
time) to attain it, so they suffice
with mock quality.
They buy take out foods for 'special nights', frozen entree's for quick meals at home. It may not taste really really good, but it's fast and easy.
They buy prefab furniture to get a bookcase really easy, even if the shelves will start sagging in a few years.
They buy compact cameras even though some shots will be impossible to record correctly because it has no manual features, but they won't know how to calculate the f-stop and speed to use anyways... At least they don't need to lug around a 35mm, 2 1/4, or 4x5 camera (or gasp an 8x10 like Ansel Adams).
We like our stuff fast and easy.

Well, I got to disagree with you
partially. I'm born and raised in
New Orleans, and men tend to do a
lot more cooking than women. And
cooking a proper meal is still a
habit there. Fast food doesn't
really do well there(except with
the tourists). I avoid fast-food
when at all possible. And I still
make my own coffee in the morning(I
don't get in my car until I'm
coffee'ed up, in Florida. A good
way to get yourself killed.)

I meant culturally, not
individually.
I percolate coffee in a stove top caraffe, but don't grind the beans.
The last fast food I had was a middle east food called falafel a few years ago. It was mediocre, so I just prepare the sauce myself at home, and buy some precooked patties (I have never been able to cook them at home for some odd reason.) We do eat out though about once a week.
The funny thing is, that with all the 'time saving' devices we use (cars, microwaves, dishwashers, laundry machines, computers...) you would think we would have lots of time to relax and enjoy quality foods, take extra time to hand make those bookshelves and starch, iron and fold the laundry...

I agree Antony with dishwashers and
washing machines, digi cameras
etc.
We should have more time to relax and really enjoy food and drink( we better not forget the drink in the Voodoo pub) ...because the prices going up in leaps and bounds; its going to be a luxury soon.

I would say a good digital camera is an improvement on cameras. The time and money I wasted on film development, only to get packs of bad picks of my art. Half of the problem is developers. Not having the ability to do it myself, I suffered thru years of badly cropped pics.
