I have an idea for a competition, I'm just working on the
details (in my mind) so would like your thoughts. I believe a
computer desktop wallpaper competition would be good for the
following reasons:
*Its accessible, everyone can do this
*It gives people a real incentive to download and view the completed artwork
*I can easily set up some templates for the various sizes.
Assuming others agree with me that this is a good idea - we need some sort of theme for the brief. What are your thoughts? I was thinking along the lines of peace - well something peaceful, not too cluttered (needs to be calm for desktop wallpapers) - maybe something to do with using negative space.

I think mayhem would be a better
way to go. You could call the
contest "Chilli con Carnage".

Oh, I don't know. Webcam shots of
people with a hangover, really bad
art(that probably would make a good
contest right there, who can
purposely make the worst
submission. We all strive to do our
very best, maybe it would be a
challenge to do our very worst. And
an act of bravery to show them in
public. Could be a trendsetter for
on-line galleries.), car wrecks,
etc. As long as you hold in the
reigns, and not get to graphic
about it. In other words, no snuff
films.

Thinking about it more - wouldn't
this mean the images created would
look horrible and no one would
actually use them as desktop
images?

Make it a criteria that they have
to be so bad, that they're funny.
Like a Godzilla movie or something
by Ed Wood. Or they have to be done
with such overly-serious intent
that they are ridiculous, like
Jesus laying his hand on George
Bush's shoulder, to give him
guidance. Believe me, someone out
there would have the bad taste to
use that for wallpaper. Go to a
religious supply store. It's full
of inspiring imagery.

the idea of using the absurd. That
seems to be really in vogue these
days with some and is always in
vogue with me.

...is it still going to happen, or have you put it on backburner for a while..
maybe get it started for next bank holiday whitsuntide end of May...just a thought...something to work towards.
