Ive got a question or query I need help with...

I found on my log someone in a forum was using my images...I decided to to register into the forum to answer some of the questions that were being asked about the aforesaid images...

Now my query is the registration form requested my passport number is this normal procedure( by the way USA forum )

I'll point out did not give out number...so did not get registered.

They also requested the square root of an obscure no.and told me to use calculator...

Come on voodoo pals across the pond is this usual???

No. As a matter of fact, it sounds like a scammer. Report the address to your server. How did you find out about your image? It might have been used as a lure.

Other than PayPal, I would not give out any important info on the net(soc. sec. no. /driver's license / bank info/ passport, etc.) My address, email, and sometimes phone are as far as I go.

Also, that square root thing, might have been an attempt to stall you on their site, so they could download a virus.

I found 2 images being used in this forum from my website log...if it had been artwork I go to the company and ask them to remove the image; according to copyright regulations ...most big forums remove the artwork image immediately...

But these were textile images which questions were being asked about, I was just going to give them the info they requested...

But like you I do not give out that sort of personal info...I dont mind email address and business phone no as they are on my website anyway.

I didnt think about the delay and the stalling scam, I didnt hang around anyway...do appreciate that info Joseph;
Ill remember that in future

I had a computer guy tell me this- If you get on a site, that you can't get off of, shut your computer down immediately. It's far less harmful than what they can do.

Some sites use aggressive pop-ups. Every time you click one off, 5 more come up. Some sites stick you on their site- no matter what you do, you can't get off. Some sites will ask you a yes or no question, with the yes and no reversed, or both buttons are yes. Get off of them as fast as you can. They are probably trying to hack you.

Great Joseph thanks for the info..

I have had the pop up thing a couple years ago nothing since I block all pop ups and only turn it on when I know its safe....

same with images in emails they are blocked too.....unless I know the sender then I turn it on just for that email...

I know its a bit time consumming but "touch wood" I have had no trouble since......
