How do your surroundings affect your art? My doodled animals are influenced by those commonly bred on my home patch - had never even thought about it till recently, that was just how I drew 'em. I now live in a drier part of the country, and I find I'm using more greens in my work - perhaps trying to recapture the colours of home. Anybody else notice this?

I have noticed that I don't use a lot of bold colors now that I have children, unless it's art for my children. I don't know what that's about.

Other than that, I don't really know.
This is a great topic, though, Barb!

Modern toys all seem to be a bit too bright and boisterous to me! I'm sure my own favourites had much calmer colour schemes. Maybe your childhood favourites hold the key?

I've tended to move around the country a fair bit over the last decade or so, and I don't think there's any doubt it has influenced what I do enormously. Not only the geographical changes, moving from rural areas to urban then back again, but also moving from one workspace/studio to another.

For me, it's more mental chamges than my physical surroundings. My art alternates between cute and fuzzy, and disturbing or bold. And if I have to finish a "cute" piece, and am not in a "cute" mood, I can be in big trouble! Might draw a dismembered teddy bear or something...

I know exactly how you feel. I have drawn dismembered teddy bears, because of that very thing!

Lol! I know what you mean Sarah...my mood has a big effect on what I'm drawing / painting too.

Me too...I think it's made me much more organised with my materials! After the first few times moving I got all my arty stuff into some sort of sensible order. Still haven't found a lot of the cutlery though...:-)

...and do you have a box of who-knows-what that never seems to get unpacked, or even opened, no matter how many times you move?!

oh yes, several. It's compulsory! Have now designated them "Schrödinger's Kitchen Implements" - suspect if I ever actually opened them that the universe might disappear in a puff of philosophy...
