Sono nata in Italia,a Roma, una città caotica e splendente. Ho mosso i miei primi passi sulla sua via Sacra, fino al tempio di Vesta, e più tardi ho amato i suoi Fori, il suo caos calmo, l'odore delle sue mattinate metalliche, dei suoi mercati,la tenerezza dei suoi tramonti. La durezza aspra delle sue periferie martoriate, la sua terra piena di radici di fuoco e sangue ed echi. Poco tempo dopo quei primi passi, é divenuto evidente in me una sorta di naturale predisposizione per l'arte, la letteratura, e l'osservazione. Nella mia casa, era relativamente semplice reperire libri, così non era raro trovarmi, nel pomeriggio, con la testa su uno di essi, specialmente se traboccante di immagini. Un'altra cosa non infrequente era per me bombardare di domande chi si trovava nelle mie vicinanze su quanto leggevo o vedevo intorno a me. Ero assolutamente affascinata dalle immagini, ed il concetto di immagine si estendeva per me ben oltre la carta stampata, o un semplice passatempo, o qualcosa di esclusivamente bello da vedere, occupavano gran parte del mio primo relazionarmi col mondo esterno. Osservavo estasiata Klimt, Picasso, Rossetti, Botticelli, Leonardo,Rops, Piranesi, Rubens, Velasquez, Goya, Bocklin, e ancora la scultura antica, l'arte greco-romana, e nella pura pulsazione di luce (ed ombra) che é il colore, prima ancora di conoscere la parola, mi sembrava di trovare tutte le parole del mondo, tutte quelle che i grandi attorno a me potevano pronunciare. Naturalmente non avevo la più pallida idea che fosse così, io vedevo l'oro della Salomé, con il suo incarnato irrorato di lucentezza, e lo sguardo umido di Proserpina era il frusciare dei pini nel mio giardino, e il pane appena fatto la perfezione della Venere di Milo, della Nike, dell'Afrodite al bagno, dei bronzi di Riace. Tentavo di copiare quella bellezza, cercavo quella forma, quella perfezione assoluta. La amavo, mi infuriavo se non riuscivo, la desideravo, ritentavo. Non ho mai smesso di farlo. Le parole scritte erano per me come simboli, (dopo tutto, il mondo intero non é che un grande simbolo) delle stesse sensazioni. Ho amato Lovecraft, Baudelaire, Verlaine, Nietzsche, Evola, Rimbotti, Howard, Poe, Lucrezio, Omero, Platone, Rutilio Namaziano, Eschilo, Sofocle, Tolkien, l'epopea de 'I Mabinogion'... decisi di prendere il Liceo Artistico, frequentando i cinque anni di regola. Durante quel periodo di tempo approfondii la conoscenza dell'immagine come media, come barriera, come simbolo, e sviluppai un amore viscerale per il simbolismo oltre che per Canova. Leggevo Apuleio, le sue Metamorfosi, e Psyche diventò un tema per la mia fervida immaginazione...

I was born in Italy, in
Rome, a city bustling and bright. I moved my first steps on
his Sacred Way to the Temple of Vesta, and later I loved his holes, his
calm chaos, the smell of his mornings metal, its markets, the
tenderness of its sunsets. The hardness of its
rough-torn suburbs, the land of his roots and echoes of fire and blood. Shortly after those first
steps, it became apparent to me a kind of natural talent for art,
literature, and observation. In my house, it was
relatively easy to find books, so it was not uncommon to find in the
afternoon with his head on one of them, especially if full of pictures. Another thing was not
uncommon for me to bombard of questions in my area who was on what I
read or saw around me. I was absolutely
fascinated by the images and the concept of image stretched me far
beyond the printed page, or just a hobby, or something only looks great,
occupied most of my first reports with the outside world. I watched entranced
Klimt, Picasso, Rossetti, Botticelli, Leonardo, Rops, Piranesi, Rubens,
Velazquez, Goya, Bocklin, and even sculpture ancient greek and Roman
art, and pure pulse of light (and shadow) which is the color, before you even
know the word, I seemed to find every word in the world, all those great
all around me were saying. Of course I had no idea
it was so I could see the gold of Salome, with her complexion sprayed
gloss and wet look of Proserpine was the rustle of the pines in my
garden, and freshly baked bread for perfect Venus de Milo, Nike,
dell'Afrodite the bathroom of the Bronze Statues. I tried to copy that
beauty, I tried that form, that absolute perfection. I loved her, I raged when
I could not, desire, try again. I never stopped doing. The words were written
for me as symbols (after all, the whole world is not that great symbol)
of the same feelings. I love Lovecraft,
Baudelaire, Verlaine, Nietzsche, Evola, Rimbotti, Howard, Poe, Lucretius,
Homer, Plato, Rutilio Namaziano, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Tolkien, the
epic of 'The Mabinogion'.
I
developed a deep love for symbolism than for Canova. Read Apuleius, his
Metamorphoses, and Psyche became a theme for my imagination.
