This self portrait was first produced in my computer using Photoshop7. Several photos (spanning 20 years) were merged, filters applied, background constructed and then instead of clicking print, I picked up my brushes and painted. Most of the work and all of the Art was accomplished inside my machine, so perhaps it's Digital Art (that makes the paint craft). In any case, I've entered it into a prestigious Australian Digital Art competition and will note here how I went...

The title tries to take away from the point. As if it were only a Black Hat, a disguise not in anyway. A silent refrence to the back of ones own hand painted for the world that be. I do like the idea of using technology but often feel disappointed at the result of Photoshop images or at least pure computer input rather than mixing photos/scans of drawings/textures .(may be I am just not very good at using it).
So it is interesting to feed the 'effects' back into'real' paint and 'the stuff of reality'.

No I believe using photoshop gives the final brilliance to this piece, the variation of the saturation of colour gives great contrast in the final piece.
